The following policy applies to Hands-On English™ web site (“Site”) operated by Ballard & Tighe, Publishers, a division of Educational IDEAS, Inc., (hereinafter referred as "B&T"). B&T recognizes the importance of protecting the information that we collect from customers as they interact with the Site, including purchase transactions, user registration, and Site use. It is our policy to use this information, or information acquired through user postings at our Site, for internal business purposes only, and we maintain appropriate security measures to keep this information private. The privacy policy below applies to the Site only. Communications with Customers offline, at live events, via the telephone, or through the mail are covered under separate policies.
The Site requires registration to access the system and creates your account automatically using your e-mail address. This makes it easier for you since you don't have to create and remember a login identifier. The personal information that we collect or receive when you register for credentialing services includes: name, school, and e-mail address. The use of your e-mail address for login also allows the Site to e-mail you a new password in case you forget or lose your old one.
When you visit the Site, we may store information about your web session and assign you one or more "cookies." Your browser will store these cookies on your computer in a small text file. For example, when you log in to the main portal, we store encrypted information in your browser so you don't have to log in to every other page in the portal. Permanent cookie files remain on your computer's hard drive until you delete them manually using your browser or operating system software. You may wish to delete such cookies periodically from your computer. You can enable your browser to refuse cookies, but doing so may disable access to some services and tools that we offer.
B&T may use information collected during registration to perform customer inquiries. For example, if you request contact information/service changes for your account, B&T will use the information provided to validate your account and perform such requests. We may also use information collected during registration for marketing purposes. For example, we may use information you provide to send you information regarding product and service updates, promotions, and events. We will not provide any personal information to other companies or individuals without your permission, and we won't sell your personal information to anyone. B&T may disclose to authorized law enforcement personnel the personal data from anyone who poses a threat. This might include those that are attempting to commit fraud or those who conduct activities that could bring harm to others.
Currently, various browsers-including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari-offer a "do not track" or "DNT" option that relies on a technology known as a DNT header, which sends a signal to web sites' visited by the user about the user's browser DNT preference setting. B&T does not currently commit to responding to browsers' DNT signals with respect to the Company's web sites, in part, because no common industry standard for DNT has been adopted by industry groups, technology companies, or regulators, and there is no consistent standard for interpreting user intent. We take privacy and meaningful choice seriously and will make efforts to continue to monitor developments around DNT browser technology and the implementation of a standard.
As is true of most web sites, we gather certain information automatically to analyze trends in the aggregate and administer our Site and Services. This information may include your Internet Protocol (IP) address (or the proxy server you use to access the World Wide Web), device and application identification numbers, your location, your browser type, your Internet service provider and/or mobile carrier, the pages and files you viewed, your searches, your operating system and system configuration information, and date/time stamps associated with your usage. Due to Internet communications standards, when you visit or use Sites and Services, we automatically receive the URL of the web site from which you came and the web site to which you go when you leave our Site. This information is used to analyze overall trends, to help us improve our Site and Services, to track and aggregate non-personal information, and to provide the Sites and Services. B&T may also collect IP addresses when visitors log into the Site and Services as part of "IP Range Restrictions" security features.
B&T may use Web beacons alone or in conjunction with cookies to compile information about interaction with e-mails from us. Web beacons are clear electronic images that can recognize certain types of information on your computer, such as cookies, when you viewed a particular Site or Service tied to the Web beacon. For example, B&T may place Web beacons in marketing e-mails that notify us when you click on a link in the e-mail that directs you to one of the company's Sites for the purpose of improving the company's web sites, services, and e-mail communications.
B&T may retain your information for a period of time consistent with the original purpose of collection. For instance, we may retain your information during the time in which you have an account to use our Sites or Services and for a reasonable period of time afterward. We also may retain your information during the period of time needed for B&T to pursue our legitimate business interests, conduct audits, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
You may request to review, correct, delete, or otherwise modify any of the personal information that you have previously provided to us through the Site and Services. If you have registered for an account with B&T, you may generally update your user settings, profile, organization's settings, or event registration by logging into the Site with your e-mail and password and editing your settings or profile. To update your billing information, discontinue your account, and/or request return or deletion of Your Data associated with your account, please contact your account representative or the customer service team for the applicable Service.
We reserve the right to update the terms of this Privacy Policy from time to time. We encourage you to visit and review this Privacy Policy periodically to ensure you agree with any changes or updates. We will post our revised privacy notice on our web site and update the "Revision Date" to reflect the date of the changes.
By continuing to use our web site after we post any such changes or updates, you accept the privacy notice as modified.
